I have lived and now work in the sprayzone. As I write
this I am suffering from 'pins and needles' in both lips...have suffered from
blurred vision, mucous buildup resulting in a hearing loss, first asthma
attack etc etc. I teach and see the same symptoms and worse with the children
and people I work with. The people who aren't impacted by this spray are blind
to the suffering of those less 'fortunate'. I want to write articles on what
people have suffered overseas so that people in West Auckland can make their
own connection to what they are suffering.
Our govt. even as recently as this week are saying only 1% of people
are suffering an allergic reaction to this spray. Over 50% of the staff at my
workplace last year have recorded reactions. This year there are over 8% of
the staff effected. I can't write about what is in the spray...but I can write
about people moving because of the spray...losing jobs because they cannot
work...marriages breaking down because of the stress...children requiring
surgery because of mucuous build- up in their ears...young men having heart
attacks...men dying who handle these chemicals in the course of their work etc
etc etc. Global awareness needs
to be raised. If I attack this
problem from the perspective that international pesticide companies are making
a profit on human illness and death almost no one will listen.
But if I can write about the family next door and the impact being in
the sprayzone has had on them attitudes will change and the next community
that is threatened with this insane solution will put up a fight before they
get sick instead of after. Any help you can give me...or any direction you can
point me into would be very much appreciated.
