My daughter got lice from a relative who was staying with my family, so we went out and bought Nix-4 bottles the first time,6 bottles the second time. After the first treatment, not only were we still finding live lice, we ! were still combing live lice out of our daughter's head...30 minutes after the first treatment! I thought that prehaps the Nix took a little longer to kill the lice, so I disposed of the live bugs in plastic ziploc bags and went about cleaning my house. After the second treatment, there were just as many lice in my daughter's head as before! So, I thought that it must be that there were lice in the carpet (don't ask where I got that idea). We not only re-treated my entire family, we MOVED, replaced ALL our furniture, washed every stitch of clothing in the house, threw away all my daughter's stuffed animals, treated our cats for lice (just in case), and bombed our car before cleaning it. Well...it's now three weeks later, and guess what? My daughter still has lice! She was treated AGAIN yesterday, and I found live creepy crawlies on her head this morning. I have to make note of the fact that my husband and I were up until 4:00 this morning, cleaning our apartment, checking each other's heads, etc. I also have to note that I now have a BUZZ CUT because I started getting ill from using the Nix so often! (My husband, by the way, is NOT good at cutting hair-I have a BAD buzz cut, which is worse than just a buzz!)We spent $80.00 at the laundrymat yesterday to get rid of any lice that may have been on our clothes, vacuumed and ironed all the furniture (sorry, but I can't afford to replace it again), bleached everything from my daughter's Barbi dolls to the WALLS, and, yes, I spent over four hours picking nits. And she STILL has bugs! I thought Nix was supposed to KILL lice, not give them a steroid treatment so they can survive ANYTHING! As it is, ! I quit; I've left all our clothing in plastic bags, and I'm keeping my child in the house for two weeks while I pick every last nit out of her head, clean the entire house with bleach every day, and try to kill these buggers without using any more toxins on my family. An interesting side-note...when this first started, I was pregnant. I miscarried at 8 weeks. When I asked about using Nix while pregnant, I was told that it "should be safe". Looks like it wasn't, huh?
