Lindane for Head Lice ...

[ Symptoms of Pesticide Poisoning ]

My son Matthew was repeatedly sent home from school at age 7 with headlice, there was an epidemic of lice at his school. His dr. prescibed Lindane, a large bottle with no directions. I used it on him repeatedly, and he developed eye blinking, which the dr. misdiagnosed as conjuntivitis, and allergies, my son was treated for both with no improvement. By then his eyes were rolling back and he had jerky movements in his arms.

He is now 11 and diagnosed with Tourettes Syndrome. He has had 3 abnormal EEG's which the neuro's feel are some type of seizure activity. I didn't know at the time how dangerous Lindane is, and now know it has affected my son neurologically and emotionally. I try to tell as many parents as I can to never use Lindane, they should never have a child suffer like my son Matthew has. He used to play Pop Warner football, but the coach had to take him off the field, he had trouble breathing and had developed a new tic, clearing his throat.

He went from being the sweetest kid, to having awful tantrums, and he would make these loud, piercing noises. What really saddens and scares me is the FDA and EPA know how dangerous Lindane is, but continue to allow it to be prescribed to our children. Matthew just went through some cardiac tests this past week, he was getting intermittent chest pain, and woke up one morning in a sweat with his heart racing. Thankfully his EKG was normal, but I must keep an eye on him and call 911 if his pulse goes 150 or higher.

I know if the general public was made aware of this dangerous pesticide, they would never use it on their child, I wish I had known. Thank you, Pamela LaBrake
