Rental Cars in Hilo, Hawaii soaked with chlorpyriphos
When I rented a car from Avis on the Big Island, I became so sick in it that I decided to take it back. I found under both front seats containers labelled that they contained chlorpyriphos! No wonder. But Avis said that they routinely put this in all their cars at Hilo, as "people eat in the cars." All the other rental companies in Hilo said they treat their cars too, but fortunately, Dollar had a new car, just delivered with only 9 miles on it, that was not yet sprayed. I survived in it, newness and all, wearing a charcoal mask, and felt much better than with the chlorpyriphos. - Larry P.
